Outside of Xander Schauffele actually winning the 2024 PGA Championship, last weekend's top watercooler moment was when Scottie Scheffler, the world's No. 1 player, was arrested by Louisville police last Friday for what he says was a misunderstanding when trying to enter Valhalla Golf Club after an accident involving a fatality.
Schauffele appeared on the Pardon My Take to discuss his first major championship victory and shed some light on a group chat on WhatsApp between himself, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Scheffler and others.
"(Scheffler) took it like a champ and we have a group chat, with our physio, our crew. It's me, Gary (Woodland), JT, Jordan, Scottie, Pat (Cantlay) − we all share the same physio," Schauffele said.
“You gotta change the picture of that group chat to the mug shot,” said host PFT commenter.
“Obviously, that happened,” Schauffele confirmed. "He handled it really well. In Scottie Scheffler fashion − he's a good dude. As soon as I saw it, I thought it was a prank and then I saw it on the news and was like: 'Holy smokes, this actually happened!' It feels like he's going to come out OK from all this, it feels like things are going to get dropped."
Scheffler will be arraigned on June 3.
He is charged with second-degree assault of a police officer (a Class C felony), third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic, which are misdemeanors.
