Along with the summer season comes a major influx of vacations and most of all, tourists in your city. Whether you're a local or a visitor, I think many of us have fallen into the typical "touristy" category of fashion, by accident or not, at least once to a few times in our lives. And if you're anything like me, you're probably slightly embarrassed and sick of sticking out like a sore thumb. While I do believe in not conforming to societal norms and always finding your own style/fashion that best shows off who you are, I'm also a lover of a good old capsule wardrobe you can style to fit in anywhere. So, that being said, as a former fashion editor now turned shopping editor, I'm here to give you a few tips as to how to dress less cringey, and more chic while on vacation.
First things first, it's best to start with what makes you not fit in. Depending on where you're choosing to go on vacation this year (like Italy, France, the UK, and Mexico to name a few) the reality of visiting a city full of culture and trends that are built upon layers of history means that the way you carry yourself and style certain staple pieces can mean more than what you're actually wearing. Your attitude plays a major part too, along with your confidence and sometimes even the way you walk. Basically, worrying about not fitting in might be the biggest tell that you're not from there (apart from the chunky belt bag you're carrying around).
That said, we're here to talk about what you can/should wear while on vacation. So here are some styling hacks I recommend keeping in mind while traveling. Staples like a denim skirt, classy sandals, or simple linen dress are great starter pieces that aren't too flashy. But suppose you're feeling daring and want more cute prints reminiscent of the local fashion.
